Other days, it feels like too much. Both are okay here.
Stephanie Sangillo, LSW, provides virtual therapy for adults (18+) in New Jersey specializing in trauma, sexual assault recovery, and related conditions including PTSD, OCD, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. She uses EMDR and psychodynamic therapy, and works with adults across the lifespan, including college-age clients navigating trauma in an academic setting. Sessions are conducted virtually and are available to anyone located in New Jersey at the time of their appointment.
Stephanie’s Approach
-
EMDR helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they stop feeling as raw and immediate. For clients who find themselves replaying an event, getting triggered by things that seem to come out of nowhere, or feeling "stuck" even though they logically know it's over — EMDR is specifically designed to help the nervous system catch up to that knowledge.
-
Psychodynamic therapy creates room to slow down and understand the deeper patterns underneath the symptoms — how past experiences shape the way someone sees themselves, their relationships, and their sense of safety in the world now. This isn't about assigning blame or picking apart childhood. It's about understanding why certain things affect a person the way they do, so clients aren't just managing symptoms but actually making sense of their own story.
-
CBT brings a more structured, present-focused piece into the work — identifying the specific thought patterns and behaviors that keep anxiety, OCD, or depression on repeat, and building practical tools to interrupt them.
Sessions with Stephanie don't look identical week to week. Some weeks involve structured EMDR work. Other weeks are spent talking through what's coming up day to day — a relationship, a triggering memory, a hard week. Stephanie follows each client's pace, not a script.
She works with adults navigating trauma, sexual assault recovery, PTSD, OCD, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, and emetophobia. Many of her clients are also managing more than one of these at once — trauma rarely shows up in isolation, and clients don't need to have it all sorted out before starting therapy.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain reprocess traumatic memories so they feel less distressing and intrusive. It's widely used for PTSD and sexual assault-related trauma.
